"Stay safe and stay the course": that's some advice to Zohran Mamdani from activist India Walton, who won the Democratic mayoral primary in Buffalo NY only to thwarted by wealthy contributors and the political class in the general election.
"The way to beat organized money," India told me, "is with organized people.”
Here are some comments from India:
“He (Zohran) has the playbook. He has the winning formula… He got more votes than any person who’s run for office in 40 years, aside from David Dinkins.”
“The radical people are the ones who believe folks don’t deserve affordable housing, or universal childcare—not the ones who want an equitable society.”
“It’s not because Zoran is charismatic or it was too hot in 2025… These are policies that are wildly popular with working-class people.”
“We’re ready for something different, better. We’re ready to center people and take care of one another.”
