Apologies to all readers for my seeming disappearance. To my surprise, some parts of this country are still off the grid—at least as far as the internet is concerned. We had a new episode of the broadcast done, except for the monologues, but it’s hard to upload video and audio without an internet connection. Some family complications added to the challenge of writing and publishing online.
On the upside, I saw the beautiful cricket in the picture above. I saw people I love and people I could learn to love. And I was reminded that this country is filled with astounding beauty, kind strangers, and the artifacts and fragments of a heartfelt and authentic American culture.
I also played this beautiful guitar, left behind by a dear friend who has moved on. It sounds sentimental, and it is, but I could have sworn I heard his voice in the wood and steel.
Everybody needs a break. This one was an accident, but it turned out to be a welcome one. If I had known it was coming I would have let you know.
“I’m just a human being trying to make it in a world that is very rapidly losing its understanding of being human.”
—John Trudell
