Not long ago I spoke with a New Yorker who did not support Mamdani because their rent (controlled), stores and in general their life in New York was just fine for them. They didn't see why their status should be impacted because of others. This person who did much for those they know is most uninterested in anyone outside their bubble. It is quite sad.
The French aristocrats competed in extravagant displays of wealth. They had fireworks. We've upgraded to spaceships. Their guards had immunity in abuse/murder of the riff-raff - plus the Bastille. We have fracking ICE-holes with Qualified Immunity; which was itself created by Supreme impunity and willful illiteracy - plus Alligator Alcatraz. . . And a President who is promising a de-capitation strike - with bombs rather than guillotines.
Me? I note that the Rule of Law, that no person is Above the Law, requires that we hold Justices to their Constitutional oath. It follows that when the Supreme Court determines that a Law, e.g. the Judiciary Act of 1789, is repugnant to the Constitution, as argued by John Marshall in 1803 Marbury, that it be returned to the Congress for remediation.
